Do Ex-Display E-Bikes Come With a Manufacturer Warranty?

Do ex-display e-bikes come with a manufacturer warranty, E-Movement ex-demo folding e-bike

Yes, an ex-display e-bike can come with a manufacturer warranty, but the length and terms depend on who sells it. At E-Movement, every ex-demo and ex-display e-bike is sold with warranty cover, and your statutory rights under UK law apply on top. Whoever you buy from, get the warranty terms in writing before you pay.

Do Ex-Display E-Bikes Come With a Warranty at E-Movement?

Yes. E-Movement's ex-demo e-bikes are gently used bikes that keep their warranty. The cover depends on the part and the bike's price band:

Part Warranty Applies to
Frame 4 years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first All E-Movement e-bikes
Electrical components (motor, battery, display, controller) 1 year or 5,000 miles E-bikes priced £1,000 and over
Electrical components (motor, battery, display, controller) 6 months or 3,000 miles E-bikes priced under £1,000

Most ex-display models fall under £1,000 range so the 6-month electrical cover is the one most buyers will use. Claims are handled directly by E-Movement from Woking, not by a third-party importer.

What Is an Ex-Display E-Bike?

An ex-display e-bike is a brand-new model that has spent time on a shop floor or been used for test rides instead of going straight from the box to a customer.

Our ex-demo bikes have been used exclusively for display or test rides under our direct supervision. While they may show minor cosmetic marks, they have never been subjected to the wear and tear of a daily commute.

Is an Ex-Display E-Bike Warranty the Same as a New Bike Warranty?

Some sellers may reduce the warranty period or may calculate the warranty period from when the bicycle starts being used instead of the purchase date and therefore it is important to ask. Brands also differ on whether a warranty passes to a second owner, which is why a dealer-backed warranty is usually the safer route.

At E-Movement UK, the cover runs through the company itself. You deal with the same Woking team for sales, warranty claims and spare parts.

What Does an Ex-Display E-Bike Warranty Not Cover?

E-Movement's warranty terms list these situations as voiding cover:

  • Water ingress: entry of water to the electrical components for instance when using a pressure washer or driving through deep puddles.
  • Poor maintenance: punctured tyres, loose or missing parts or ungreased chain.
  • Misuse: overtightening the threads and bolts, which can lead to cross-threaded pedals.
  • Unauthorized service and modifications: any service done by unauthorized parties such as modification of the display settings.
  • Commercial use: delivering packages and similar commercial activities.

Following the e-bike care and maintenance guidelines protects your claim.

Do I Have Legal Rights on Top of the Warranty?

Yes. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers second-hand goods as well as new ones, and your rights are against the seller. A warranty is an extra not a replacement for those rights.

Time since purchase What you can ask for if the bike is faulty
First 30 days A full refund known as short-term right to reject
Up to 6 months A repair or replacement; the seller must prove the fault was not there at delivery
After one failed repair or replacement A price reduction or the final right to reject

E-Movement also offers a refund within 30 days if you are not satisfied. Check its Refund Policy for the exact terms on ex-demo bikes.

How Do I Check an Ex-Display E-Bike Warranty Before Buying?

Put these questions to any seller, in writing:

  1. How long is the warranty period and when does it start from your purchase date?
  2. Is each part of the bicycle (frame, engine, battery and display) separately covered under the warranty?
  3. Is there any limitation on miles as well as on time?
  4. Who handles claims and where is the bike repaired?
  5. Do the service works need to be conducted only by authorized partners?
  6. How many days can you return your product?

E-Movement publishes its full terms in its Terms and Conditions, so you can read them before you order.

How Do I Make a Warranty Claim on an Ex-Display E-Bike?

Contact E-Movement through its website or at move@emovement.co.uk. For repairs, email service@emovement.co.uk with a description of the fault, photos or videos, and your order number.

Servicing and repairs are by appointment at the Woking workshop, and pick-up can be arranged on request. If you live elsewhere in the UK, E-Movement's service partners can help.

Are Ex-Display E-Bikes Worth Buying?

They are good value when the warranty is clear and the bike is cosmetically sound. You get a near-new e-bike at a lower price, with legal protection and dealer cover.

Two practical points: ex-demo bikes cannot be bought with Cycle to Work certificates because they are already low-cost, and they are still worth insuring. Read our guides on the Cycle to Work scheme for e-bikes.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does an ex-display e-bike warranty start from the purchase date?
It should but some sellers start it from first use or the bike's registration date. Ask for the start date in writing before you pay.

2. Is the battery covered on an ex-display e-bike?
At E-Movement, the battery is part of the electrical components cover (motor, battery, display and controller): 6 months or 3,000 miles on bikes under £1,000, and 1 year or 5,000 miles on bikes of £1,000 and over. Batteries are consumables, so wear from normal aging is judged differently from a fault.

3. Can I return an ex-display e-bike if I change my mind?
E-Movement offers a refund within 30 days if you are not satisfied. Check the Refund Policy for the exact terms on ex-demo bikes.

4. Will servicing my ex-display e-bike elsewhere void the warranty?
It can. E-Movement warranty cover is void if servicing or repairs are carried out by an unauthorised service provider.

5. Does an ex-display e-bike come with the same warranty as a brand-new bike?

Not necessarily. Ex-display e-bikes may have different warranty periods depending on their condition, price and previous use. Always confirm the warranty coverage and duration with E-Movement before purchasing.
